The Lingerie Addict: Fitting Guide Part 2:... →
thelingerieaddict:
I am someone who has to add inches to my underbust measurement to have a comfortable bra (mesomorph, hi there!), and last year, I became well and truly tired of all the “bra fit experts” who insisted they knew my body better than I did because they were unfamiliar with my body type.
There are no…

George Takei: My Internment Taught Me Civil... →
sinidentidades:
It’s a lesson learned many times before, but which requires constant reminder: without fierce vigilance, U.S. civil liberties can slip away so very quickly. Beloved actor, activist and social media rock star George Takei took to the Huffington Post this week with that very same reminder.
Last week Takei traveled to McGehee, Ark. to dedicate a brand new Japanese American...

I am the thirstiest fangirl: Indians. We're good... →
thirstrani:
Over the past year or so, the problem I’ve had with the representation of Indians in Hollywood and television has really begun to drive me insane. Why is it that the only role an Indian actor or actress can portray is that of an immigrant (with a strong accent), a taxi driver (if the show or movie is set in New York City), a wannabe Bollywood star, or a doctor?
Newsflash, humanity:...

White privilege is not having people be surprised when they meet you in person because you “sound different” (aka “white”) on the telephone.

Post-racial America is still a pipe dream
So last week I watched CNN’s Black in America. There was one comment in particular that stood out to me, from the biracial woman in the poetry group, well her sister. Anyway, as they discussed how they identify. The poet did not identify as black, while her sister did. Her sister explained things, to paraphrase, “well my sister tends to like ‘white’ stuff, and I am more interested in...

I love the Bay Area
Today I went to Berkeley Bowl. There were organic black mission figs for $1.99/ 8 oz. A decent price.
A woman comes up and says:
You should go to Monterey Market. It is a zoo there right now, there are figs for $2.49 a pound. Everyone is lining up to pick out their figs.

Inspired by Roxane Gay at The Rumpus, here’s a long old list of writers and illustrators bringing more diversity to kid’s lit. And I promise you, it is not complete.

Why is there very little utility to women’s clothing? Why don’t we get pockets...
– Kara, “The Feminist and the Handbag” (via athenasaurus)
This is so true! And on the rare occasion there is actually a usable pocket? It is is the absolute most unflattering place ever, so you don’t buy the item.

Open Letter to the .01%: Stay Home #occupyoakland
I have mixed feelings on the #Occupy movement. As a part of the 99%, I am in support of the idea of a movement. I am less enamored with a leaderless, undefined movement. That being said, Occupy is great opportunity for anyone to take part in the movement.
All throughout the day, I checked in on the activities at #OccupyOakland on Twitter. I am an Oakland booster, and I was hoping nothing...

Living Social Sells $10 Million Worth of Whole...
Did you get one? I did?
baddeal:
Living Social, the second largest daily deal site after Groupon, has sold $10 million worth of coupons for Whole Foods in under 24 hours. That’s more than this weekend’s combined box-office receipts for Our Idiot Brother, Shark Night 3D and Apollo 18. The Washington, DC-based Living Social sold out of its one million $10 coupons; each are redeemable for $20...

Eats: Local Cafe is Open (Piedmont Ave)
As reported a few weeks ago, it looks like it’s official, Local Cafe is open. Dinner is slated to start next month. I am sad there are no espresso drinks. The prize for best 3rd wave coffee on Piedmont Ave is still up for grabs!
Here’s an excerpt of the menu.
